Being With Overwhelm (S2E8)

Anyone else feeling some overwhelm right about now? I'm finding myself in a new cycle of news addiction and the regular and constant exposure to it is certainly leaving me feeling anxious and overwhelmed. This meditation was originally created in one of my last cycles of overwhelm, and yet, it is serving me yet again. If you're feeling it, too, I hope this meditation can be of support.

Settle into your meditation pose, it could be seated, standing or laying down. Naturally take a few deep breaths and close your eyes if it feels appropriate. Take a moment to connect to the reason that brought you to stop right at this moment.

Be clear with your intention and tune into what it can do for you as well for those around you. Bring your attention to your body, particularly your inner landscape. Then ask yourself what would serve your heart, mind, and body right now.

Chances are the mind will become busy trying to answer the question. If that's the case, notice this busyness as a felt sense. Perhaps a forward pull mixed in with tightness or agitation.

This exercise is about asking the question, not answering it. If that question doesn't resonate with you, try a different question.

What quality do I most want to embody? Visualize whatever else you have to do today, embodying the desired quality or after having given what your heart, mind and body need.

After having given your heart, mind, and body what they need, imagine the rest of your day in as much detail as possible. When our bodies, hearts, and minds feel seen and heard whether or not we're able to give it what it needs in that moment, our innate presence can arise more easily, allowing us to see and choose more clearly.

This practice is not about trying to force a feeling in any way, it's more about remembering. Remembering to come back to yourself. Now, and any time you need, even if for just a few seconds at a time.
