Set yourself up in a position in which you can be at ease.
Once you've settled in, you can close your eyes if that's comfortable, or take a few full breaths.
Invite relaxation into your body.
If you're laying down, let your head and neck relax, gently allowing the head to press a little bit deeper into the ground.
you're seated or standing, stack your head over your heart, over your hip.
Tune into what brought you to practice right now.
you be hoping for.
What might you be looking for?
try to keep it as immediate and personal as possible. Not necessarily grandiose, just sincere examples like wanting more energy, more peace, more understanding, more resilience, more kindness.
Now try to turn your attention even deeper inwards and find a part of your body that is already what you are looking for.
For example, if you are looking for more peace through practice, find a sliver in the body that might feel peaceful.
like maybe part of your arm or a place in your torso.
If it's understanding or kindness that you're hoping for, perhaps, it's more of a recognition that simply by showing up to this practice, you are expressing understanding and inclining toward kindness.
This is a practice of leaning towards what is already here, rather than focusing on what is lacking.
It's very normal for the mind to move towards lack. It's simply a habit of the mind.
So whenever the mind might say something like, oh, we're not so peaceful, or we're actually pretty tired, practice returning to the part of the body that is already the quality that you're looking for.
You might deepen your trust of this place or this quality by tuning into all of the sensations that make up this quality.
Even if you're tuning into the smallest part of your pinky finger for peace, get curious about what peace feels like in that place.
What does recognizing understanding or kindness feel like in the body?
In these last few moments, try to soak in the experience of whatever it is you are looking for that is already here.
The bell will ring in a few moments. Until then, let go of practicing in any particular way and rest in the space that has been created by your practice.
Thank you for your practice. Until next time, take care of yourself because that's how we can best take care of others.
