Biography
Dawn is a Certified Yoga Instructor, whose style of teaching has evolved into a method that blends the insights and practices of Yoga with the mindfulness and Meditation of Buddhism. A practitioner for ten years, Dawn began her path at the Montreal Sivananda Yoga Center before moving on a few years later to Kripalu Yoga and Ashtanga/Iyengar Yoga as taught by Hart Lazer. In 2006, after traveling alone for 4 months and completing her first 10-day Meditation retreat on a Thai monastery, Dawn decided to give up her short-lived Marketing career to become a Yoga teacher.
Since then, Dawn has completed close to 100 nights in silent Meditation retreat, as well as countless Yoga workshops with exceptional teachers, including a Yoga Teacher Training (2006) and a Mentoring Program (in progress) with Hart Lazer. She has also traveled frequently to the United States to study with Phillip Moffit, Mark Coleman and Anne Cushman for a Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training, and Seane Corn for a spiritual activism intensive called Off the Mat, Into the World. It is each of these experiences in Yoga, Meditation and Spiritual Activism that strongly influence her practice and teaching today. Aside from pursuing her passion in Yoga, Dawn has also fervently pursued raising awareness about global issues. She organizes yearly Yoga Malas, or fundraisers, in which close to ten thousand dollars has been raised for organizations such as Greenpeace, Équiterre and Amnesty International.
For Dawn, practice on the Yoga mat and Meditation cushion are like mirrors that unveil strengths and fears, and it is the same practice that enhances our strengths and breaks us free from our fears. With the tools learned on the mat we are able to act (and react) from a grounded place of love and compassion, and not from a place of fear.
